Take Time Out for a Safety Stand-Down
Encourage Worksite Safety, Support National Safety Stand-Down Week
National Safety Stand-Down Week (May 4th – 8th, 2026) is an annual event dedicated to raising awareness about fall protection. Employers from all over the country cease work for a short period of time to coordinate a safety training or activity which educates their workers on the importance of complying with fall protection training, methods, and standards.
According to OSHA, anyone who wants to prevent hazards in the workplace can participate in the National Safety Stand-Down. In past years, participants included commercial construction companies of all sizes, residential construction contractors, sub- and independent contractors, highway construction companies, general industry employers, the U.S. Military, other government participants, unions, employer’s trade associations, institutes, employee interest organizations, and safety equipment manufacturers.
Further, OSHA suggests that companies can conduct a National Safety Stand-Down by offering a toolbox talk or another safety activity, such as conducting safety equipment inspections, developing rescue plans, or discussing job specific hazards. Managers are encouraged to plan a stand-down that works best for their workplace anytime.

Participating in the National Safety Stand-Down demonstrates that you are committed to the safety of your workers. Additionally, for every year you do participate, OSHA will provide you a Bronze, Silver, Gold, or Platinum certificate!
Each year, employers have asked Compliance Consultants, Inc. to conduct a variety of safety stand down trainings, which are tailored to clients’ needs and immediate issues.
FAQs
Why conduct a stand down?
Falls continue to be a leading cause of death for employees in the construction industry. The Stand-Down is a short meeting (about 15-20 minutes) with all workers on the jobsite. All work is stopped and we speak directly to the employees about fall prevention and working safely.
Should I participate again?
If you’ve participated in years’ past and received a certificate, we strongly recommend that you do so again. One of the most important reasons you should participate is to demonstrate to your employees and subcontractors your commitment to fall prevention and other safety issues on the jobsite. Employees and other employers alike (not to mention OSHA) recognize the importance of demonstrated top level commitment to promoting a positive safety culture. OSHA offers various certificate levels depending on how many years you’ve participated – Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum. By hanging your certificate in your jobsite trailers and offices, you demonstrate to OSHA and your employees your continued commitment to safety.
Who should participate?
CCI recommends that you schedule a safety stand down for all large jobsites that have serious fall hazards, such as scaffolds, roofing, and steel work, and also those smaller jobsites with fall hazards such as ladder use, elevator shafts/holes, aerial lifts, etc. We will tailor the talk to the fall hazards present at the site.
How should we participate?
This is up to you. Some companies choose to conduct a simple toolbox talk and get right back to work, others choose to make it more of an event and provide food or snacks for the workers. Feel free to take pictures during the Stand-Down and use them for marketing or PR purposes. However you choose to conduct the stand-down, CCI can help you by providing a quality educational event that reinforces the importance of fall prevention.
We aim to surpass our performance from last year!
By taking time out to conduct a Safety Stand-Down we help to educate others about the proper safety measures in their trade which could make the difference between families who are able to greet their loved ones at the end of each working day and those who cannot.
