OSHA’s Top 10 Safety Violations for 2024


Every fall, The National Safety Council announces OSHA’s Top 10 Most Commonly Cited Violations for the year. 

This year’s updated list was published on September 27, 2024 at the NSC Safety Congress & Expo, the world’s largest annual gathering of safety professionals. OSHA’s Top 10 Safety Violations are based on data through September 5, 2024, and OSHA will provide a more in-depth look at the data in December.

Fall Protection remains at the top of the list for the 14th year in a row,

followed by Hazard Communication.

The Top 10 most frequently cited workplace safety standards for FY 2024 are:

  1. Fall Protection – General Requirements (1926.501): 6,307
  2. Hazard Communication (1910.1200): 2,888
  3. Ladders (1926.1053): 2,573
  4. Respiratory Protection (1910.134): 2,470
  5. Lockout/Tagout (1910.147): 2,443
  6. Powered Industrial Trucks (1910.178): 2,248
  7. Fall Protection – Training Requirements (1926.503): 2,050
  8. Scaffolding (1926.451): 1,873
  9. Personal Protective and Lifesaving Equipment – Eye and Face Protection (1926.102): 1,814
  10. Machine Guarding (1910.212): 1,541

OSHA’s Top 10 Violations Year Over Year

The yellow horizontal arrows indicate that the status of that specific violation has not changed from the previous year. So, Fall Protection, Hazard Communication and Ladder safety have all remained in the same top three spots in 2024 from the previous year.

The red downward arrows and the green upward arrows indicate the change in ranking for that violation respectively.
